Probably Cairo’s oldest, largest and most famous souk. It dates back to the fourteenth century when the spice trade flourished and was a man reason for the city’s rise and early prosperity. Today it’s a great place for shopping or relaxing in one of the traditional coffee houses to soak up the atmosphere. The famous Al Azhar University

A giant limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It was built approximately 2,500BC probably by the pharaoh Khafra. In medieval times locals paid homage to the Sphinx believing it to be the talisman of the Nile and that their harvest depended on his goodwill. It’s not known how the Sphinx lost his nose but one stories says it was as a result of a cannon ball shot by Napoleon’s soldiers.

An unforgettable and fascinating trip to an enchanting, historic and vibrant city including a visit to the only one of the “seven wonders of the ancient world” still standing – the great pyramids of Giza.
